Five characteristics of a prophet of the LORD:

He was a mouthpiece of God to represent God before the people (Exod 4:16; 7:1; Isa 1:2-4; Jer 1:4-10).

He announced coming judgment before future salvation (Jer 25:7-15; 28:5-9).

He did not practice "soothsaying" (Jer 28:2-4; Num 22--24).

He proclaimed God's already revealed word (Zech 1:4; 7:4-7).

He proclaimed God's newly revealed word (Jer 36; Joel 1:1).
